About us
A repair company working in Nepean and Stittsville since 2023.
Jock River Appliance Repair opened in 2023, named after the river that runs west of Barrhaven and past Richmond. The name was practical before it was sentimental: it is the line most of our first customers lived along.
The company began the way small trades usually do — one technician, one van, and a phone number passed around by neighbours. That first year was mostly washers and refrigerators in the older parts of Nepean, with evenings spent reading service manuals for machines that had only been on the market a season.
By the second year the calls were coming from further out, and we had a choice: cover more of the city, or cover two areas properly. We chose the second. Nepean and Stittsville are close enough to each other that a morning call usually gets an afternoon visit, and small enough that the vans can carry the parts people here actually need.
Every technician who joined got their own van and their own stock, because a second visit for a part that should have been on board is the failure customers remember longest.
We repair appliances in people's homes, seven days a week, from seven in the morning until eleven at night. We do not sell appliances, we do not sell parts over a counter, and there is nowhere to drop a machine off — everything happens in your kitchen or your laundry room.
Staying narrow is deliberate. Repair is the whole business, which is why the vans are stocked the way they are and why our technicians specialise by brand rather than trying to be equally good at everything.
Every visit starts with a diagnosis, and nothing is quoted before it is tested. We do not give prices over the phone — an error code can point at three different parts, and a number guessed down the line is worth nothing to either of us. The technician tests the appliance, gives you a fixed price, and the diagnostic is not charged when you go ahead with the repair.
If a repair costs more than the appliance is worth, we say so, even though it means a smaller invoice that day. Customers who are told the truth about a nine-year-old dishwasher tend to call back about the refrigerator.
Every repair we invoice carries a 90-day warranty. We also keep our written records straight — what the fault was, which part went in, and what it cost. That history has been useful more than once when a machine developed a second, unrelated problem a year or two later.
The Jock is a quiet river. It floods a little every spring, drains, and carries on. It seemed like a reasonable model for a repair company: show up, do the work, don't make a production of it.
